South Parkland Softball Volunteer Positions

Volunteers are needed to create the best playing experience for our girls! NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, with different types of personalities, and varying levels of experience. Here are some of the ways you can help. Commitment times range from an hour or two once per season up to season-long opportunities. Can you spare an hour?

LEAGUE VOLUNTEERS

HEAD COACH (HC): responsible for softball instruction and coaching during practices and games. Will teach fundamentals and sportsmanship and develop pride in team and organization. Knowledge of the game and skill in teaching softball skills is a requirement for this position (but can be learned on the job for the Prep/8U division, and support is available from experienced coaches for all levels. The coach may select a Manager/Team Parent to assist them with communication and/or team activities. SEASON-LONG POSITION. BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED. PLEASE INDICATE AGE LEVEL.

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR: ensure timely communication with softball families via email and social media announcements. Publish game summaries as provided by team coaches.

FIELDS COORDINATOR: Responsible for facilitating maintenance of the four softball fields at Springhouse Middle School. Report any field needs to Commissioner, including those that affect playability during adverse weather conditions. Coordinate field equipment maintenance for items such as lawn tractor, gator, pitching machines, storage sheds and field storage boxes. SEASON-LONG POSITION

 

BACKGROUND CHECK ADMINISTRATOR: collect background check information from all volunteers required to provide them. Maintain database of volunteers meeting requirements with expiration dates and clearances provided. ONGOING, PRIMARILY PRE-SEASON

SPRING CLEAN UP DAY VOLUNTEER: Assist at the beginning of the season (before games start) with: inspecting field boxes with respect to lock and box conditions, cleaning out storage sheds, organizing equipment, ensuring proper layout of fields, landscaping, etc. ONE-TIME COMMITMENT

TEAM VOLUNTEERS: (As chosen by Head Coach of each team, as needed.)

SCOREKEEPER/STATISTICIAN: Responsible for keeping score for your child’s team during the season. Reports score of each game to the Commissioner within 24 hours of conclusion. TRAINING PROVIDED.

DUGOUT PARENT: Dugout parents are essential for managing the players in the dugout, keeping the dugout organized, and fostering fun and positive chanting/cheering in the dugout. Dugout parents are crucial to helping the players transition from offense to defense quickly. BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED.

FIELD CREW: Groom and maintain a team’s softball diamond before games. This includes raking the infield (using tractor), ensuring appropriate placement of bases and the pitching rubber, and chalking the lines the field, or other activities as necessary. TRAINING PROVIDED

 

TEAM PARENT: a team parent enables coaches to focus on preparing and facilitating fun practices and games. While coaches are expected to focus on games and practices, Team Parents are accountable for the deliverables outside of games and practices, such as snack schedule, year-end event, etc.

 

TEAM SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR: Responsible for sending team highlights, scores, and game pictures to the league social media coordinator. Provides summary of game to Communications Coordinator for Facebook and Team Snap updates.
